A 1960 graduate of St. Peter's HS, Pete was the Island champion in
many distance and middle distance events over his career. Fifty years ago last
Fall (2009) he won the Staten Island HS cross country championship race for St.
Peter's at Clove Lakes. Later that year, he, along with only one other teammate,
led St. Peter's to the Eastern States Championship team title. As far as we know
that was the only time a Staten Island team ever won the ESC. Murray, a sub two
minute half miler was the winner of the 880-yard run in that meet which was held
in Madison Square Garden. Peter finished his career as a scholarship runner at
Fordham University.
