When Marie Acacia entered Tottenville HS she did not plan on becoming a track
and field champion. She didn't get around to joining the track team until her
sophomore year. But she made up for lost time with an indomitable work ethic and
a be-the-best approach to competition.
By the time she graduated, she had set NYC records in the shot and discus, en
route to winning three state championships. A quarter-century later, she
remains the best female shot putter in PSAL history.
