As a High School football player at Poly Prep in Brooklyn I. Perfection Harris
was rated the No. 6 prospect in New York state by SuperPrep and ranked among the
nation's top 25 skilled athletes in SuperPrep preseason magazine. On the track
he attained personal bests of 24-feet, 8-inches in the long jump and 48-feet,
6-inches in the triple jump. He won the state title in the long jump as a
sophomore and the prestigious Penn Relays as a junior.
At Georgia Tech he placed fifth in the long jump at the 2003 Atlantic Coast
Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships with a leap of 23 feet, 6.25
inches.
He transferred from Georgia Tech to Kent State and became an All-ACE selection, setting the
school long jump record in 2003. He had a 4th place finish in the long jump
(23-6.75) and a 3rd place finish in the triple jump (46-5.25) at the All Ohio
Championships during the 2006 outdoor season. During the 2005-6 indoor season he
took second in the triple jump, with a mark of 47-7, a personal record, at the
indoor MAC Championships. He also took a second at the Sykes Sabock Challenge in
the long jump with a personal-best leap of 24-1 . At the Central Collegiate
Championships, he had his only first-place finish of the season in the long jump
with a mark of 23-0.50.
