SITRAC Elects New Officers

June 26, 2010 - SITRAC held its annual officers election on Tues. June 22nd at the board room of the South Beach Psych
Center in Ocean Breeze.
 Vin Gattullo was elected the 4th president of SITRAC. Gattullo has previously served as the Director of the Staten Island Zoo and the President of the American Parkinson Disease Association among other projects. Gattullo laughed "at my age this is not something I thought I would be doing. We are in a real important stage now and I will take SITRAC to the next level" Among Gattullo's goals are to expand the board to include more regionally and nationally known people. Also elected was Bob Orazem, 1st. Vice President, Pete Whitehouse, 2nd Vice President, Alberto Garcia, Secretary and Jack Minogue, treasurer.

The Boardwalk Mile - 8/14/10
SITRAC will host the Boardwalk Mile on Saturday, August 14th on the north end of the Boardwalk by the fishing pier.

The Department of Parks & Recreation announced today that the long awaited ground-breaking for the Ocean Breeze Indoor Track & Field facility has been set.
 
WEDNESDAY, JULY 21ST AT 11AM 

Ocean Breeze, Capadanno Blvd. Staten Island. 

"This is absolutely great news" said SITRAC board member Bill Welsh. "The Staten Island community has been waiting for so long" 

The state of the art facility will be the finest of its kind in the USA. The facility will feature a six lane hydralic Mondo track with eight lanes in a down position. The seating capacity will be 2500.

Update: Caitlin Tormey
Caitlin Tormey was on top of the world after her 23rd place Olympic Marathon Trials performance of 2:40.29 in April of 2008. Things have not been that rosey since. Tormey was diagnosed with a stress fracture of her right inferior pubic ramus in July of 2008 and is still on the comeback trial.......> More

Sportsman of the Year
On Thursday June 16th, the Staten Island Advance honored SITRAC board member Jack Minogue as it's Sportsman of the Year.  Minogue's involvement in sports has spanned over 50 years! Minogue breathed new life into SITRAC with his involvement starting in 2003 and has been instrumental in the progress of our organization. Congratulations Jack, there is no more deserving person on Staten Island.

Legendary Staten Islander, runner, coach and all around great guy Bill Welsh has a web site started in his honor. Welsh will turn 80 years old on July 5th. and a gala is being planned.
