SI Track Running and Community
Several articles which have appeared in the Advance about the new state of the art indoor track and field facility in Ocean Breeze are causing concern on Staten Island. Therefore, members of the Board of Directors of Staten Island Track Running and Community (SITRAC), a 501 (c) Not-for-Profit Corporation, which has been the advocate for the project since 1996, met with the Borough’s Commissioner of Parks, Adena Long, and her Chief of Staff, Michael Schnall.
The following clarifications about the project, which is fully funded as part of the capital plan for Mayor Bloomberg’s PLANYC Initiative, are presented:
Construction has resumed at the site and the deficiencies with the piles are being addressed through further testing to identify the necessary corrective action.
SITRAC fully supports the efforts of the Department of Parks to build the Ocean Breeze indoor track and field facility and firmly believes the completed project will benefit all of Staten Island as well as the rest of New York City.
