Long time SITRAC board member Alberto Garcia was awarded the Lou Marli Service Award at the Annual Staten Island Athletic Club's holiday party.
The Marli Award is considered the most important award in the running community. It is awarded for "long time service to the running community"
Garcia coaches the Our Lady of Good Counsel CYO Cross Country and Track & Field teams along with the Island Express Track Club. He is also an assistant coach at Notre Dame H.S.
Garcia moved to Staten Island in the mid 1980's from the Bronx where he was a championship runner at Mt. St. Michael's and St.John's University.
Garcia said "I'm proud to accept this award. It wouldn't be possible without the support of my wife Youree"
Garcia is a father of four daughters (one solid relay) and lives in the Silver Lake section of Staten Island.
