Economic Impact

When completed, the indoor track at Ocean Breeze Park can do more than contribute to the health and well-being of Staten Island, indeed all New York City, residents.  If operated and marketed properly, as demonstrated by the indoor track at North Carolina A & T State University, the track can also have an impact on the economic health of New York City  and surrounding communities.
North Carolina A & T is located in the charming city of Greensboro which has a population of 270,000.
In 2009 and 2010, the school hosted nine regional/national meets which had an estimated economic impact of $38,922,000 or $4,324,700 per meet. An average of 4,600 athletes and spectators needed approximately 2,590 hotel rooms and 11,700 restaurant meals per meet.  Marketed properly, the demand for a world-class indoor track in New York City, the tourist capital of the world, can be expected to be much greater.
